VCON Sponsors the ViDe Workshop on H.350

Providing information on important new standard for Voice and Video over IP

(March 16, 2004) Austin, Texas - VCON (Nouveau Marché ISIN Code: IL 00 108 30540), a worldwide leader in audio and videoconferencing solutions, today announced that it is sponsoring the upcoming ViDe Workshop on H.350, which will commence immediately following the 6th Annual ViDe/SURA Digital Video Workshop. The Video Development Initiative (ViDe) is offering a one-day workshop on the new H.350 “Directory Services Architecture for Multimedia Conferencing” standard ratified in August 2003 by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).

“Until now, evolving a video and voice service meant hopping from one proprietary management solution to another, and retooling the business process each time. We finally have a tool that addresses how the enterprise and service provider can safely manage large numbers of video and voice over IP users and endpoints,” said Tyler Miller Johnson, network engineer for ViDeNet, the world's largest video over IP network connecting hundreds of universities globally. “Our experiences building ViDeNet demonstrated the centrality of the directory and the need for a formal international standard in this area.”

VCON’s The Media Xchange Manager® (MXM) will be the first VCON product to include support for the H.350 standard. Expected availability of the MXM software version with H.350 support is Q2 2004. This will be a software upgrade for current MXM networks, downloadable from the VCON website.

“VCON has always created standards-based solutions, realizing how critical they are to the wide-spread deployment of video and audio conferencing,” said Gordon Daugherty, CMO, VCON. “The ViDe workshop on H.350 will be extremely useful for engineers and network administrators looking to implement a directory structure for all users on their video network. We are pleased to be a sponsor of this workshop.”

ViDe played a key role in the development of this new standard. This standard describes a lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) schema that stores information about SIP, H.323 and H.320-compliant and even proprietary voice and video endpoints. The architecture makes it easy to look up users' video and voice addresses, and allows the enterprise to provide white pages, configuration, user management and authorization services all out of the same directory. This integration of business processes reduces the overall cost of operating services.

The H.350 standard is relatively simple to implement. The March workshop is designed to provide engineers and network administrators the know-how to plan for, implement and purchase H.350-compliant products. It is a unique opportunity for developers of real-time IP communications by providing first-hand information from world authorities on this promising new tool.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday, March 24 and Thursday, March 25, 2004, at University Conference Center and Hotel, Indiana University Purdue University Indiana.
Corporate and commercial attendee registration fee is $350 and Academic and research network attendee fee is $250. To learn more about the Workshop, visit www.vide.net/conferences/h350 or send e-mail to workshoponh350perey.com.
