VCON joins multiple vendors and hundreds of institutions
around the globe in the largest worldwide videoconference over advanced
networks
(November 22, 2004) Austin, Texas VCON (Euronext- Nouveau
Marché -ISIN CODE: IL 00 108 30540), a worldwide leader in audio
and videoconferencing solutions, today announced that the company will
participate as a vendor in MegaConference VI, The worldwide conference
over advanced networks, which takes place over two six-hours sessions
on December 9, 2004. VCONs participation in the conference includes a special interoperability
demonstration where the company will have an opportunity to explain
its products to the world. Multiple systems will be connected to the
worldwide online conference through VCONs award-winning The Media Xchange Manager® (MXM). VCON will also provide 20 vPoint HD videoconferencing
kits as door prizes for participants at the event. vPoint
HD is VCONs software-only videoconferencing client that provides
business-quality video and audio for desktop users who may have limited
bandwidth. Were very excited to be an active participant again in
the largest worldwide videoconference over IP networks, said Gordon
Daugherty, chief marketing officer, VCON. Our companys videoconferencing
systems have been used over IP protocol since its inception and the
annual Megaconference is a good reminder and example of how the acceptance
and use of videoconferencing over advanced networks has grown tremendously. Megaconference VI will begin at 12:00 UTC (6:00 a.m. CST) and end twelve
hours later. The only requirements for participants are a strong IP
connection and an H.323 endpoint. Additionally, Megaconference VI will
be streamed out live to any participant with an Internet connection.
The annual conference, which is supported by the Internet2 Commons,
is held to further the use of videoconferencing in education and research
and to advance state of the art videoconferencing technology. The event
consists of active participants who have access to advanced Internet
connectivity and an H.323 videoconferencing endpoint, and observers
who watch the simultaneous stream using a web browser and freely available
stream players. Also, a system of distributed, H.323 multipoint control
units (MCUs) located around the world will be cascaded together to create
a cutting-edge Internet videoconference infrastructure. During the daylong event, speakers from across the globe share their
latest real-world uses of H.323 videoconferencing, while using H.323
videoconferencing to do so. Some live videoconferences will feature
special guests such as surviving penpals, friends, and relatives of
Anne Frank who will greet one another and speak to the Megaconference
audience. Other videoconferences include an ambulance with terrestrial
and satellite communications for wide-area, real-time digital voice,
video, and data during transport; a look at life and culture in a small
Canadian town; a media-rich presentation covering underwater sea life
in Florida; and more. Last years MegaConference drew more than 187 institutions in
28 countries, with over 100 viewers watching the streaming video. To
