Activating Annex Q Support for Far End Camera Control

Emblaze-VCON Product: Escort, Cruiser 75/150, Cruiser 384, vPoint, MC9000, ViGO™, Falcon
Non-Emblaze-VCON Product: none

Problem Description:
What software levels are required to enable the new Annex Q standard for far-end camera control over IP?

Resolution:
Prior to the final ratification of the Annex Q standard for far-end camera control over IP (H.323), the implementation of the standard was modified. Since many videoconferencing vendors had already delivered software releases before the standard was finally ratified, there ended up being two different Annex Q implementations in the market. For purposes of this support note, Pseudo Annex Q shall refer to the pre-ratified implementation and Annex Q shall refer to the ratified implementation.

The following Emblaze-VCON software releases have support for both Pseudo Annex as well as Annex Q:

  • MeetingPoint 4.6XP-SP1
  • vPoint 5.1
  • MC9000 2.1-SP1
  • Falcon 3.01

All of these systems install with Pseudo Annex Q by default. In most cases, other vendors maintain support for the Pseudo Annex Q method so no changes will be required. However, if true Annex Q support is required, then the ANNEXQ.REG file should be executed (double-click) on the PC-based versions. This .REG file can be found in the install target directory under Program Files.

The Falcon has a selectable menu item for Annex Q in the configuration settings.

Just remember that if some Emblaze-VCON systems are changed to true Annex Q, then there will be no far-end camera control interoperability with other systems that remain configured with Pseudo Annex Q.

Additionally, if the Emblaze-VCON Media Xchange Manager is being used to centrally manage the network, it must be upgraded to version 3.1-SP1 or later in order to support the true Annex Q standard.
