Broadcast Viewer and Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)

Broadcast Viewer 6.0 |

Problem Description:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 changes the rules for the use of the XP firewall services. As a result, certain communication-related applications seem to get blocked from proper operation. What is Emblaze-VCON's recommended solution for customers who encounter this problem? |

Resolution:
PCs running Windows XP SP2 that launch the Emblaze-VCON Broadcast Viewer version 6.0 or earlier will likely see a message pop up on their screen that will prompt the user to "Block/Unblock" the core applications related to the Broadcast Viewer. The user should select to "Unblock" these applications from the XP firewall services and the Broadcast Viewer application should work fine.
If "Block" is accidentally selected, the list of blocked/unblocked applications can also be found in the Network Connections settings. Select the network device that is being used, right-click and select Properties. The Advanced tab will show the list.
For the Emblaze-VCON Broadcast Viewer a service pack release that better addresses this issue has been released and is located on the Emblaze-VCON Downloads section of the Emblaze-VCON website. Look for version 6.0 SP1 or later.
Finally, if the message window to block/unblock applications does not appear and the firewall configuration settings also are not visible, it is likely that the network administrator has implemented a policy in the network domain that prevents users from making the described changes above. In this event, the user should discuss the issues with the local network administrator.
